My thoughts exactly. I hope the good people of Staines appreciate it.
Country is a state of mind, not a state of America.

Ladies & Gentlemen, boys & girls....

The next 'Down by the Riverside' event will be Friday 19th December and the venue is as usual is The Staines Riverside Club....
and for our end of year Christmas Extravaganza we have most definitely saved the best till last!

Our generosity at this time of giving know no bounds :D so there will be a genuine BANJO up for grabs in the raffle! ('Oooo, Ahhhh, Gasp' we hear you say) so any budding bluegrassers can join the pick in the new year.
The picking session will start as usual at 7.30 and will be run as usual by the fantastic Jason French.

Following the pick we have 2 amazing bands lined up: 'The Kelly Lee Band' supporting then headlining we have the UK's absolute premier bluegrass band, none other than 'The Coal Porters'!!!

Kelly Lee - A British Country, Folk and Bluegrass artist/guitarist who has recorded & toured with her original material in the UK and US. Having previously won awards from the BCMA Kelly is touring with new material and a new band focussed much more on the roots and acoustic side of country.
The ‘Kelly Lee’ band consists of Double Bass, Guitar, Banjo, Fiddle, and Mandolin with stunning 3 & 4 part harmonies.
The blend of traditional instrumentation, beautiful vocal harmonies but a thoroughly modern approach to song writing gives Kelly Lee a unique style and take on the classic genres of Country, Bluegrass and Folk.

The Coal Porters - (Needing little introduction) are a five-piece ‘alt-bluegrass’ band featuring guitar, mandolin, fiddle, bass and banjo with stellar vocal harmonies. Led by ex-Long Ryder and author Sid Griffin the Coal Porters have already toured the USA twice this year and are currently recording their fifth album with the legendary John Wood (Fairport Convention, Beth Orton, Squeeze, Nick Drake) producing. They’ve been favourably reviewed in everything from The Guardian to Billboard to The Daily Mail. They have played seemingly every festival in the UK from Glastonbury In England to Seswin Fahr in Wales to Chapter House in Northern Ireland and have been heard on BBC radio live sessions for DJs Tom Robinson, Janice Long, and Marc Riley. Even Whispering Bob Harris is a fan, having both attended Coal Porters gigs as well as playing them on his BBC radio show. Last year the band were recorded in concert for the USA’s mighty and prestigious NPR radio network and their most recent album, Durango, made the Top Forty of America’s Alt-Country radio airplay chart, Come see what all the fuss is about!

The venue is the Staines Riverside Club, only a 2-3min walk from Staines railway station and plenty of free on-street parking & an onsite car park.

And remember, in any other venue you'd be paying between £10-15 just to walk through the door of a 'Coal Porters' gig so to keep these top bands coming back to entertain us all - Dig Deep Brothers & Sisters!

So come along, spread the word, bring your instrument - Bring your friends - and enjoy some of the best music the UK has to offer!

Looking forwards to seeing you all there and a big MERRY CHRISTMAS from The "Blue-GrassStaines" team!
