I was sad to hear about Mel Smith. Haven't seen him on the box recently but remember "Not The Nine O'Clock News" fondly! I suppose it was like Monty Python for those of us at school at the end of the 70s!

Lest we forget, he had quite a career outside of NTNON. Comedy actor, straight actor, film and play director, screenwriter and in partnership with Griff Rhys-Jones he formed Talkback productions as well as the successful Alas Smith & Jones tv show.
