The Troggs frontman Reg Presley has died after a long battle with cancer, friends of the singer have announced.

Keith Altham, a music publicist and friend of Presley, posted a tribute to the 71-year-old singer/songwriter on his Facebook page.

It said: "My dear old pal Reg Presley of The Troggs died today at 1.00, surrounded by family and friends at his home in Andover following a succession of recent strokes and a losing battle with cancer.

........ Memories.

"Wild Thing" & "Love Is All Around" instantly come to mind.

.... and crop circles!! :) Reg seemed to be the 'go to' person whenever the media wanted someone to talk to about them!

I remember seeing Chip Taylor a few years back and him commenting about how well his bank account had done, and still did, due to the Troggs version of "Wild Thing"!

I used to like the Troggs, but Chip and Carrie's version of "Wild Thing" remains the best.

No arguement from me.

Thats the problem with the 60's - not remembering being there and who wrote what   .

This is quite amusing - excerpts from the "Legendary Troggs Tapes" recorded in a recording studio in 1971. These are the actual conversations between the band and the producer/sound engineer, cleverly set to cartoon characters.

I was listening to "TODAY" on Radio 4 when Reg's death was anounced. John Humphries went into raptures about The Troggs & Reg Presley's song "Wild Thing". Neither John nor the other guy on there were aware that Reg did not write Wild Thing!

It certainly was a nice little earner for Chip, not only The troggs hit version but Hendrix recorded it as well.
Then Chip scored with Angel Of The Morning- an angelic performance from Juice Newton, revived a few years back in an awful version by some Ragga guy! Still, I'm sure Chip appreciated the cheques!
