Did you listen to the words:

Somebody's gotta shoot that whiskey
Somebody gotta bust that rack
Somebody's gotta play that country that ain't ever comin' back
If home is where the heart is then I'm right where I belong
I can do this night life ALL DAY LONG

A-ha, I see! No, I didn't listen to the song but even so, somehow I can't see Garth Brooks being the answer to the question!!

Trigger: And as we know, country music is a copycat business. Whatever works will be replicated. That’s why we saw so many Sam Hunt and Florida Georgia Line clones crop up in the last few years. Will this now happen with twangy, honky-tonk country music? We’ll just have to see.

Saving Country Music reports that Willie Nelson's next release will be a Frank Sinatra tribute. No details of track listing but he has confirmed that "My Way" will be on there. No release date yet either but I bet, looking at how quick he churns these things out, it'll be this year!

Can't honestly say it's something that makes me feel particularly excited but if he does it in a big band style, rather than a low key acoustic setting, it could be interesting!

Incidentally, the Big Man of Western Swing, Dave Alexander, has just released a Sinatra tribute and I was able to pick up a copy for $5 in Wichita Falls last month (he decided to have a Fathers Day $5 for anything on the merchandise table for some reason). I've not been able to listen to it all the way through ... barely managed the first two tracks!! It's not for me ...

Thanks to Saving Country Music, I've been listening to some really good new albums by artists I hadn't heard before. Check out Jay Bragg, James Carothers, Cliff Westfall and Scott Southworth for some good old country music. Here's one of them:

Wonderful duo, The Milk Carton Kids. Off their album "All The Things That I Did & All The Things That I Didn't do". Recall Simon & Garfunkel at their best.
Great harmonies, wonderful songs.

Not up there with Bridge Over Troubled Waters etc. Missed listening to this. Have you bought it as CD or download?

SPOTIFY - https://open.spotify.com/album/1BpQ1yTs ... A6rl50SjPA

I see it made UK Americana chart but is tagged Singer/Songwriter and not country.

An update on Willie's Sinatra tribute. Due out on 14th September,

I was able to listen to this last night. I enjoyed it but it's very much a jazz album rather than a country album. Though there's a smattering of steel guitar on the album I was dying for there to be fiddle or steel solos in some of the tracks, especially the more swingy ones, but they just weren't there!! I do like what Willie's done with the title track "My Way" though: he's toned it down so it doesn't sound quite as angry as Sinatra and just about everyone else has done it. Willie's take is most wistful and restrained.

As Willie settles into his later years, for me the best element of that is his changing voice. I have always loved his voice but more and more over the past 5 or so years. I hope to listen to this soon and look forward to his takes on Sinatras standards.

New album from Asleep at the Wheel due next month (or possibly October depending on which website you look at!). "New Routes" is (according to my calculations) their first new, regular album since "Reinventing The Wheel" way back in 2007 and follows albums backing Willie Nelson and Leon Rausch, 2 Christmas albums, a live release with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, and their third Bob Wills tribute.

Songs on the disc are:

1. Jack I'm Mellow
2. Pencil Full of Lead (the Paolo Nutini song)
3. Call It a Day Tonight
4 Seven Nights to Rock (old Moon Mulligan track)
5. Dublin Blues (Guy Clark song)
6. I Am Blue
7. Pass the Bottle Around
8. Big River
9. Weary Rambler
10. More Days Like This
11. Willie Got There First (featuring Seth and Scott Avett)
